DANIEL "BEAR" WAYNE YOWELL
Bear Yowell, 33, of Atlantic, Iowa passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, August 13, 2013.
Bear was born March 26, 1980 in Hamburg, Iowa the son of Jean Peterson. He lived in Sydney, Iowa a few years, and after moving to various places, put roots down in Atlantic where he graduated from the ADTS "Hospital School" at CCMH, and has been employed 15+ years with Cass Inc and nearly two years with R&B Feeds. He loved his work and put his all into every task. Bear loved his moped, which was his freedom to ride all over town to visit old friends and make new ones. Whether through his Star Wars collection or his love of animals, he worked his way into all our hearts.
The Yowell family would like to thank Atlantic folks and the surrounding communities for making this area home to Bear. His perseverance to make friends with everyone he met made him a familiar face around town. His brother, John says from his heart, "We can not thank you guys enough for that."
Bear will be remembered for his displays of military items and his participation with the "Iowa 10th, Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War" re-enactment troop that he has been so proud to be a member of. His rank in this group is "Private Bear."
Some of his favorite things included his independent living and his love for Christmas time and birthday parties. He was a fan of Garth Brooks, Ray Stevens, and especially liked John Denver's "Sunshine on My Shoulders Makes Me Happy."
His survivors include his mother and his brothers, Carl A. and John W. Yowell – all of whom are longtime residents of Atlantic.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Okay Peterson of Sidney, IA; and his grandmother, Marinelle Yowell of Brookfield, MO.
Memorials may be designated to a veterans' charity or to the Atlantic Animal Shelter.
