Juanita Evelyn Woods
JUANITA WOODS Juanita Woods, age 97, of the Atlantic area passed on peacefully at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa on Thursday, June 17, 2010. Juanita was born the daughter of Russell Purkiser and Lucy (Alexander) Purkiser on May 24, 1913 in Danville, Illinois. She attended school in Champaign, Illinois. Juanita accepted the Lord as Savior in June of 1929. On August 17, 1929, Juanita was united in marriage to Kenneth Woods, the son of Fred and Stella Woods, from rural Anita, Iowa. A daughter, Jean, was born to this union. They farmed until Kenneth broke his arm. After that they moved to Atlantic. He later became a licensed plumber in Boulder, Colorado where they lived for twenty-one years. Juanita was catalog manager then credit manager at Montgomery Ward and later became office manager of a bookkeeping service for small businesses. In 1984 they returned to Atlantic to retire. She attended fellowship meetings at Berea, Lyman, Atlantic Gospel Chapel and Sunnyside Bible Chapel. She is survived by her daughter Jean Wilkinson of Liberty Hills, Texas; her nephew, Bob Olson of Valrico, Florida, who was raised by Kenneth and Juanita; nieces, Helen Lou Westphal and husband Art of Wiota, Iowa and Margaret Jane Purkiser of Colorado; nephew, Dick Woods and wife Judy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Scott Wilkinson and wife Pam of Yoakum, Texas, Bobbi Ellinger of Victoria, Texas and Reece Coventree and spouse Kelly Knox of Texas City, Texas; five great-grandsons, Carlton Wilkinson HMC1-USN and wife Karen, Jeff Lemmons and wife Ashley, Terrance Wilkinson CTT2-USN, Matthew Wilkinson and William Becker; great-great granddaughter Karlee Raquel Lemmons. Juanita is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Kenneth; her sister Jane Gilquest; her brother Larry Purkiser; her parents-in-law; and her brother-in-law and sister in-law Lewis and Helen Woods.Funeral InformationThere will be open visitation at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00-5:00 p.m. and Monday through Tuesday from 8:00 to 5:30 p.m. Juanita's family will meet with relatives and friends for a visitation at Roland's from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22.
