Adabelle Wood
Adabelle Vernita Wood, 79, long time Atlantic resident, died Monday morning, March 10, 2003, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn.The daughter of Fred Lewis and Edna Lorena Simon, she was born October 17, 1923, in Anita, IA. She graduated from the Anita High School in 1941. Her marriage to Bernard Edward Wood took place November 8, 1941 in Wiota, IA. Following World War II, Adabelle and Bernard resided in Anita for a couple of years before moving to Atlantic in January of 1947, where they continued to raise their family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and very dedicated to her family. She enjoyed playing cards, knitting and reading her hometown newspaper, the Anita Tribune. Adabelle was a member of the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the Does of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge.Surviving are three sons; Thomas Wood and his wife Cheri of Gilbert, Arizona; Bob Wood and his wife Donna of Walnut and Mark Wood and his wife Andrea of Powell, Ohio; six grandchildren, Michael Wood and his wife Deana of Gretna, Nebraska, Tim Wood and his wife Johanna of Chandler, Arizona; Aaron Wood of New York City, New York, Sarah Logan and her husband Scott of Des Moines, Becky Wood of Huntsville, N.C. and Madelaine Wood of Powell, Ohio; two great-grandsons, Dean and Hunter Wood of Gretna; two aunts, Viola Redburn of Prescott, Iowa and Nancy Cleereman of Des Moines, and a number of cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bernard.Funeral InformationA funeral mass will be held for Adabelle on Thursday, March 13, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic with Msgr. Lawrence Beeson, celebrant. Interment will be in the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery.
