Loretta M. Wohlenhaus
Loretta M. Wohlenhaus of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away late Sunday evening, October 16, 2011, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 79 years.
Loretta was born to Joseph and Anastacia Kridick Janousek on July 28, 1932 in Clarkson, NE. She grew up in Clarkson and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1950. She continued her education for two years attending Commercial Extension in Omaha, NE On April 14, 1956, Loretta was united in marriage to Lawrence Ellis Wohlenhaus in Schuyler, NE. She had been employed at Mutual of Omaha prior to her marriage to Lawrence then worked for Walnut Grove following her marriage. Loretta had been a volunteer at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, as a 4-H leader, for the Pork Producers and the Altar Society. She was also a volunteer at the Rape Crisis Center. Loretta was a member of St. Timothy Reno Catholic Church south of Cumberland, IA. She had a passion for baking and won many awards for her recipes and was published in many cookbooks. Love was the main ingredient in everything she baked. Loretta also enjoyed crocheting blankets for her children, grandchildren and friends. She kept her mind razor sharp by doing crossword puzzles and brain teasers every night.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Wohlenhaus, of Atlantic; two daughters, Susan Topkin and husband Marc of St. Petersburg, FL and Mary Kay Wohlenhaus of Denver, CO; two grandchildren, Carlyn and Benjamin Topkin; one brother, Stanley Janousek and wife Beth of Norfolk, NE; one sister, Agnes Molacek of Schuyler, NE; a sister-in-law, Esther Ketcham of Muscatine, IA and a number of nieces and nephews.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Leonard Janousek, and one sister in infancy.
