Obituary for
Helen Wohlenhaus
HELEN M. WOHLENHAUS Helen Wohlenhaus, born November 21, 1919, went to be with her Lord and Savior on her 90th birthday, November 21, 2009. The daughter of Lewis and Mary Lindeman, she attended school in rural Cass County and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1939. She also attended the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls. Helen married Clair Wohlenhaus on May 23, 1945 in Atlantic. They were blessed with two daughters and 45 years together. Helen was a school teacher and bookkeeper during the early years of their marriage. Helen taught generations of piano students the love of music. She enjoyed being an active member in the Federation of Music, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a volunteer for the Cass County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and was recently recognized as the longest active member of the Iowa Music Teachers Association. Helen faithfully attended the Atlantic Gospel Chapel for over 55 years and enjoyed helping with missionary projects. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren appreciated how she consistently sent weekly letters that typically included comics, stickers, or animal pictures. Helen enjoyed the opportunity to sight-see during her visits to the Pacific Northwest to visit family and participated in events with her grandchildren in Iowa. Meeting for coffee with friends and family was also a highlight. Her life reflected one of her favorite mottos: "Every job is a portrait of the person that did it. Autograph yours with excellence."
