Kathryn Witzman

Kathryn Witzman, 97, of Atlantic, passed away Friday, February 12, 2016, at Atlantic Specialty Care.

The daughter of Fay B. and Grace D. (Johnson) Mewhirter, Kathryn was born November 5, 1918, in Pottawattamie County. She was united in marriage to Merritt Harold Witzman on November 28, 1940, in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

Kathryn and Merritt were dedicated members of the United Methodist Church, and volunteered countless hours serving the congregation. She was an active member of many church groups, which included Merry Marrieds and Ruth Circle. Kathryn enjoyed her work as a seamstress at Claremar Fabrics. She loved flowers, gardening and living on the farm south of Atlantic. Kathryn was a devoted wife and mother, her family was the center of her life. She was extremely proud and happy that all her children were born and raised in Atlantic, attended the Methodist Church and were graduates of Atlantic High School.

Kathryn is survived by her five children, David Witzman of Lebanon, Missouri, Dale (Edna) Witzman of Eldon, Missouri, Paul (Kay) Witzman of Atlantic, Iowa, Jean (Paul) Witzman- Holmes and Joyce (James) Jordan both of Winters, California; 17 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Evelyn Smith of Manchester, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merritt; daughter-in-law, Linda Witzman; brother, Morris Mewhirter; and special friend, Bud Woodward.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 15, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic, with the Reverend Melissa Warren officiating. Visitation with the family will held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery followed by lunch in the church fellowship hall.
