Donald William Witte
DONALD "DON" WITTE Don Witte, 90, longtime resident of Atlantic and formerly of Anita, passed away unexpectedly, at Veterans Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska on Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Donald William Witte was born the son of Henry and Louise (Wahe) Witte on September 26, 1919 in Exira, Iowa. He grew up attending school in Anita and graduated from Anita High School. He served as a sergeant in the Army during WWII and was awarded the Good Conduct, Bronze Arrowhead and the Meritorious Unit Awards. He farmed in the Anita area; worked for the railroad, Meadow Gold and Joyce-Fullerton Lumber; and was self employed as a carpenter. Don was married to Barbara Ann Geiger in Marysville, Missouri on September 26, 1957. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Janis. He was a member of the VFW and the Anita Amvets. He enjoyed woodworking, bingo, talking with folks and telling of his war experiences. His survivors include his wife Barbara; his daughter Janis Boggs of Atlantic; his sister-in-law Irene Witte; grandchildren, Donald Boggs and Lisa Swolley of Atlantic, Laura Boggs of Atlantic, David Boggs of Atlantic, Barbara Boggs of Atlantic; and great grandchildren, Johnathon Kobs, Theresa Sutton, Miranda Yarrington, Devin Boggs and Levi Swolley.
