Vivien Wissler

Vivien Wissler, 95, long time resident of Atlantic, Iowa died on Thursday, April 27, 2006 at the Heritage House in Atlantic.Vivien was born the daughter of Louis and Ada (Worth) Walter in Council Bluffs, Iowa on February 18, 1911. She grew up in Lewis and, as a young lady, worked at the Dick and Janie's Restaurant in Atlantic. Vivien was secretly married to Gail Francis Wissler on May 5, 1934 in Savannah, Missouri. It was two years before the couple announced their nuptials because Vivien worked for the telephone company and the policy in those days was that telephone operators be single. She later returned to work at the telephone company in 1961 where she retired at the age of 62.Vivien and Gail eventually settled in Bear Grove Township in the Fletcher Chapel area where they were engaged in farming for 38 years. Their union was blessed by their two children. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.Vivien will be remembered as a very loving, generous caretaker of her family. Her daughter smiles as she fondly shares that her mother had the gift of a wonderful sense of humor which was helpful in the years she spent with her beloved Gail.
