JOHN ARNOLD WISE
John Arnold Wise, Age 85, long time resident of Atlantic, Iowa passed away on Friday, November 29, 2013 at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.
John was born on October 13, 1928 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Frederich John Wise and Margaret Agnes Siegele. He attended Jungman Grade School and South High, and took Real Estate classes at IA Western Community College.
He worked for Sunderland Bros in Omaha doing ceramic tile work before moving to Atlantic in 1965 and started his own business, Atlantic Tile and Marble. In 1982, he went into real estate, forming the John Wise and Associates firm. John and Ruth retired from that operation in 2007 when they merged with Century 21.
John was always active in his church from the time he started dating Ruth in 1946. They sang in church choirs for about 60 years and helped start a church in North Carolina when he was serving in the Marines from 1952-1954.
He served two terms on Iowa Western’s Board in Council Bluffs, Iowa and during his lifetime, he belonged to Toastmasters International, Lions Club and other service organizations.
John and Ruth Almquist Wise were married at South Omaha United Presbyterian Church on October 14, 1949.
John enjoyed home projects, gardening, crossword puzzles, reading, and road trips to about half the United States.
His survivors are his wife, Ruth; daughter, Jane (Mike) Perdue of Griswold, IA; son, John Wise and friend, Jeremy Collins of Des Moines, IA; sisters, Betty Bader of Omaha, NE, Jo Ann Baulisch of Omaha, NE and Darlene (Lewis) Reece of Fresno, California; sister-in-law, Sharon Wise of Omaha, NE; and grandchildren, Andrew Perdue of Republic of Georgia, Hannah Perdue of Omaha, NE, Ian Perdue of Grinnell, IA and Neve Perdue of Griswold, IA.
