Obituary for David Dean Williams

David Dean Williams was born June 1, 1961 to Edward K. and Betty J. (Farrell) Williams in Atlantic, Iowa at the Atlantic hospital. David attended Atlantic Community Schools, graduating in 1979.  He then
attended Des Moines Area Community College where he received an Associates degree in Horticulture.

After college, he returned to Atlantic and worked for Earl May. When the family business needed his talents, he left Earl May and joined Williams Bros. Garage. In 2001, David pursued his dream of owning his own business and opened David's Home and Garden Center. This was his passion and he enjoyed each day of it.

In recent years David worked for Dr. Keith Leonard at the Atlantic Animal Health Center. Here he shared his love for people and animals for four years, along with dispensing free gardening advice.

David was very community oriented.  He enjoyed helping better the community by his memberships in Questers, Master Gardeners, and A.R.I.S.E. David was a past President and member of the Atlantic Jaycees. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on several committees.  Each year he looked forward to his role as Lead Designer for Christmas decor.

David had an amazing amount of friends, many of whom were like family.  He was surrounded by family and close friends when he left this world.  He was very strong in his faith and was looking forward to joining his family and friends that are in Heaven.

He enjoyed two trips to Great Britain with Sherri and Kerry. David made several trips to Texas to see his family there.  He loved to go to garden centers, concerts, antiques shops, boutiques, and a variety of restaurants, especially for the desserts.

His life was full of discovery and adventure. In his free time, you could find him in the yard with his many varieties of hostas or inside the house quilting, or creating something wonderful.  He loved cooking and trying new recipes, and of course sampling them.

David was optimistic that a cure for Pancreatic Cancer will soon be found.  He moved that discovery forward by donating his organs for research at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

David is survived by his siblings:  Kenny (Deb) Williams, Patty Williams, Bryan (Deb) Williams, Cathy Williams Renaud, and his dog Ellie May.  He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Jenny (Brad) Madsen, Matt (Jenny) Williams, Christopher, Amanda, Calley Williams, Jill (Patrick) Foley and daughter, Reagan, Sam and Ben Renaud, and several great nieces & nephews, Ethan, Eric, Alex & Maddy, cousins, and many beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Betty Williams, nephew Paul Williams and faithful companions (dogs) Chelsea, Buffy and Sadie.
