Obituary for
Asta K Wiechmann
Asta K. Wiechmann, 90, of Atlantic, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Heritage House in Atlantic.
Asta Kristine Petersen was born April 16, 1925 to Peter Petersen and Nicoline Marie (Mikkelsen) Petersen, at her parent's home south of Elk Horn on a day when her father was seeding oats. She attended Clay #7 School in Shelby County, graduating from Elk Horn High School in 1943. Asta was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton, Iowa. Following graduation, she worked at the Kimballton Creamery. After moving to Atlantic, she worked at Rex Pharmacy and Brown Shoe Fit. Asta met Earl Henry Wiechmann at a roller skating rink in Atlantic, and they married on April 27, 1947. They made their home in Washington Township where they raised their four children. In 1987, Asta and Earl moved to Atlantic. She resided at Heritage House from 2013 until her death.
Asta was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, and belonged to LWML and Golden Years. She loved her Savior and was comforted when scriptures or prayers were said to her. For over 60 years, Asta was a member of ETC Neighborhood Club in Washington Township. Family and friends remember Asta for her love of dancing with Earl and the friends they made, needlework and sewing, and delicious meals she made for her family. She would offer food to any worker or neighbor and was well known for her interest in young people. Asta was proud of her Danish heritage and had an opportunity to visit Denmark and her relatives there.
Asta is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Earl; her children, Alan (Carolyn) Wiechmann of Parker, Colorado, Gary (Connie) Wiechmann of Lewis, Iowa, Pat (Brent) Stuetelberg of Sun City, Arizona and Scott (Anita) Wiechmann of Stilwell, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Ben Stuetelberg, Bethany (Shyrod) Long, Kara (Scott) Simpson, Joel Wiechmann, Nate Wiechmann, Sadie Wiechmann and Jordan Wiechmann; four great grandchildren, Trey Long, Kalin Long, Taylor Simpson and Carter Simpson; sister, Edith Larsen of Elk Horn, Iowa and brother-in-law, Raymond (Delores) Christensen of Omaha, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
