Helena White

Helena White, 91, longtime resident of Marne and Cass County, died at her daughter"s home on Saturday morning, January 28, 2006.Helena was born June 9, 1914, the daughter of George Frederick and Mabel Margaret (Rundal) Spieker, on their farm southeast of Massena, Iowa. She attended school at Crossroads # 7 and graduated from Cumberland High School in 1932. Helena was married to Milo White on July 4, 1936 at Bridgewater. She worked eleven years as a dishwasher and cook for Youngs, the Truck Stop and the Coach House, retiring in 1973. Helena was a member of the Marne Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Helena is survived by a son, Donald "Duane" White (Jeannette) of Muscatine, IA; a daughter, Mary Winter (Arthur) of Hiawatha, IA; a son-in-law, Frank Elkins of Dayton, TX; 9 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 4 great, great grandchildren. Preceding Helena in death was her husband Milo; her daughter, Norma Ann Elkins; brother, Morris; sister-in-law, Lucille; grand daughter-in-law, Letha Christensen; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Dora White; and her parents, George and Mable. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 1 at 11 A.M. with two visitations; Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. and Wed. from 10 to 11 a.m. before the funeral at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Reverend James Buckhon from the Marne Methodist Church will officiate. Following services at Rolands, a luncheon will be held at the funeral home before leaving for the cemetery.
