Robert Leroy "Bob" Wheatley
Robert "Bob" Leroy Wheatley, 83, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Friday, September 13, 2002, at his residence.The son of Frank Leslie and Manda Sophie (Knop) Wheatley, Bob was born August 22, 1919, in the rural Anita area of Cass County. He grew up and attended school south of Adair, attended Air Craft School in Omaha and then worked for Bell Aircraft in Niagara Falls, New York. Bob served in the United States Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Lucille Fowble on July 11, 1948. Bob was a mechanic and worked as service manager from 1946 to 1964 for Linke Chevrolet and from 1964 to 1979 for Gil Merner Motors. He was the first employee hired in May of 1979 at Imperial Clevite (Gould), retiring in May of 1987. He then continued his garage door opener business which he had been doing since 1960. Bob was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, V. F. W. and American Legion Post #43.Bob is survived by one son, David Wheatley and his wife, Mary, of Atlantic; one daughter, Debbra (Deb) Field and her husband, Jim, of Atlantic; three granddaughters, Tina Stewart and her husband, Tim, of Marion, Iowa, Amanda Cook and her husband, Mat, of Sioux City, Iowa and Kate Wheatley of Atlantic; one grandson, Anthony Wheatley of Atlantic; one great-grandson, Alexander Cook, of Sioux City; one brother, Lyle Wheatley and his wife, Phyllis, of Pocahontas and a number of nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Geraldine; three brothers, Lloyd, Leo and Otto Wheatley and two sisters, Loretta Paige and Gladys Wright.Funeral InformationFuneral services for Bob will be held on Friday, September 17, 2002, at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Don Seeger from the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
