								                                    Colleen  Wheatley
 
 
  Colleen Wheatley, 81, of Atlantic, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Avoca Specialty Care.
  
  
  Agnes Colleen Wheatley was born on January 24, 1936, in Cass County, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Berniece (Stamp) Guttenfelder. She attended rural school through the 8th grade near Atlantic and attended Atlantic High School.
  
  
  On November 22, 1953, she was united in marriage to Gerald Wheatley. Three children were born to this union, Steve, Rick and Jody.  They made their home north of the Wheatley home place, and Colleen worked alongside Gerald to operate the family farm. In 1966, the family moved to a farm southwest of Cumberland, where they raised corn, beans, hay, cattle, hogs, and milk cows. During this time, she was also employed at several local businesses in the Atlantic area. In the early 1980’s she moved to Des Moines, Iowa, and worked as an insurance agent for several years before returning to Atlantic in 1996 to be closer to her family. She was employed by Safeguard Business Systems until she retired in 1999.
  
  
  Colleen was a member of the Atlantic United Church of Christ where she was very involved in her Bible study group. She was also a member of the Atlantic Red Hat’s. She was a great seamstress and enjoyed handiwork. She always had a large vegetable and flower garden and enjoyed canning her harvest. Colleen was an avid bowler and looked forward to going to her bowling league for several years.  While living in Des Moines, Colleen was a member of Carousal Skate Club and enjoyed competitive dance skating.
  
  
  Colleen is survived by her sons, Steve Wheatley of Clarinda, Iowa, and Rick (Peg) Wheatley of Massena, Iowa; daughter, Jody (Frank) Young of Avoca, Iowa; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her sisters, Wanda Knutson of Omaha, Nebraska, and Donna Miller of Seattle, Washington; her brother, Conrad Guttenfelder of Hopkins, Minnesota; her sister-in-law, Donna Wheatley of Atlantic, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
  
  
  She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Earl Guttenfelder, Jr.; and her brothers-in-law, Ross Miller and Roy Knutson.
  
  
  Open visitation will be held Monday, January 15, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Tuesday, January 16, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Roland Funeral Home. Visitation with the family to celebrate Colleen’s Life will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at the United Church of Christ in Atlantic with a prayer service held at 6:30 p.m.
  
  
  A private family burial will be held at a later date in the Atlantic Cemetery.
