Alice Wheatley

Alice May Wheatley, age 82, of Atlantic passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2001, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.The daughter of Henry and Grace (Link) Jipsen, Alice was born November 16, 1918 three and one-half miles west of Atlantic. She attended Washington #2 rural school and Lewis Consolidated School. She was married to Joseph Wheatley, Jr. on September 30, 1941 at Maryville, Missouri. They operated the Standard Oil Station in Atlantic until 1945 when they purchased a farm north of Atlantic where they farmed until 1970. Alice enjoyed family get-togethers and visiting friends.Surviving are one daughter Mary Jo St. John and husband Ronald of Atlantic, Iowa; one granddaughter Lisa Gladney and husband Tom of Murray, Nebraska; one grandson Kevin St. John and wife Julie of Atlantic; four great-grandchildren, Erika and Michael Gladney and Heather and Matthew St. John; one brother William Jipsen and friend Dorothy Baxter of Griswold, Iowa and a number of nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jospeh in 1985; one grandson David St. John in 1974; one sister Ethel Stamp and two brothers, Luin Jipsen and Dale in infancy.Funeral InformationGraveside services will be held for Alice on Saturday, October 27, 2001, at the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa at 10:30 AM with Pastor Allen D. Hellwege officiating.
