Obituary for
Ruth Wentzel
Ruth Wentzel, was born on April 4, 1918 in New Richland, Minnesota, the daughter of Blaine and Annie (Davis) Wood. Surrounded by her loving family, she was called to Heaven at 12:22 p.m., March 29, 2014, at Adel Acres in Adel, Iowa, at the age of 95.
In 1936, she graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City, Iowa. On June 21, 1937, she married Harold Wentzel at the Baptist Parsonage in Bethany, Missouri. For many years Ruth worked as a cook at the Commission for the Blind at the Lucas State Office Building in Des Moines. In 1978, they moved from Des Moines to Lewis, Iowa.
Ruth was a member of the Church of Christ in Lewis. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, and Minnesota camping and fishing trips with her husband, Harold “Whitie.” She also loved to make cookies at Christmas time with her nieces. Ruth enjoyed spending time with family and friends and sharing her stories. She also took much pleasure in summer visits from her grandchildren.
She is survived by her step-daughter, Bonnie (Everett) Britson of Atlantic; and her many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Harold Wentzel; her step-son, Loran Wentzel; her parents, Blaine and Annie Wood; her brothers, Donald Wood, Morris Wood and Lowell Wood, in infancy; a grandson, Larry Wentzel and a granddaughter, Rebekah (Wentzel) Davis.
Her family would like to thank Adel Assisted Living, Wesley Life Hospice and Adel Acres for the loving care they gave to Ruth.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, with Pastor David Anderson of the Church of Christ in Lewis officiating.
Visitation, with the family present, will be held one hour prior to the funeral service, at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Open visitation will be 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 1st and Wednesday April 2nd.
The committal service will be at 3:30 p.m., at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City, Iowa.
