Norman Welter

NORMAN JOSEPH WELTER Norman Joseph Welter, age 71, passed away on June 9, 2010, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa. Norm was born in Mankato, Minnesota on July 10, 1938, to George and Leone (Stemper) Welter. His family moved to Olivia, Minnesota where he grew up and graduated from Olivia High School. He married his wife, Helen Hildreth, in Pisgah, Iowa February 7, 1959. To this union six boys and one girl were born. They also took in many foster children. He was blessed with seventeen grandchildren. Norm sold cement for Penn-Dixie Cement for 25 years. He also owned motels in Harlan, Denison, Atlantic, and Walnut. Norm enjoyed playing poker with friends and family. He also loved his garden, pond and fish, but his greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his mother Leone Welter of Olivia, MN; his children, Bill and Lesli and their children, Lexie, Alisha, Logan and Alana; Don (Carla) and his children, Cory, Kyle and Chad; Pattiey (Randy) Koontz and their children, Samantha and Rebecca; Steve (Shelley) and their children, Noah and Mollee, all from Atlantic. David (Darla) and their children Norman, Sadie and Nina from Exira; Tim (Kristen) and their son Eric of Urbandale; Joe (Terri) and their children, Scott and Sarah of Macon, GA. He is survived by his siblings, Robert of Denver, CO, Virginia (Terry) Hartman of Forest Lake, MN, and Agnes (Tom) Meium of Wilmar, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen; his father George; and his brother Roy Welter.Funeral InformationThere is regular open visitation on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until the 6:00 p.m. Rosary.
