Obituary for
Dustin Weirich
Dustin Weirich, 28, of Omaha, and formerly of Gretna, Nebraska, passed away Monday, November 10, 2014, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Dustin Jon Weirich was born on May 30, 1986, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Cindy (Weirich) Cook. He attended Little Lambs Preschool and Atlantic schools until moving to Gretna in third grade. Dusty was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic and confirmed at Good Shepherd Church in Gretna in 2000. His love of adventure and outdoors began at an early age when he joined the Boy Scouts. During high school he wrestled all four years at 103 lbs, and was a state qualifier two of those years. Dusty was awarded multiple trophies and medals in wrestling and bowling. He graduated from Gretna High School in 2004, with honors. Dusty attended college for a short time receiving construction training at SCC-Milford and Metro.
Family was the most important thing to him and he always enjoyed getting together, whether it was just to play cards or for a holiday gathering. Dusty was a Huskers fan, despite much opposition from his "Cyclone"-loving relatives. He was extremely proud of his sister, Kasey for her decision to enroll in college and she is currently attending the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Those who knew him best always gave him a hard time about his devotion to Hurley clothing, which included a large collection of their shirts and hats. Whenever there was a chance to enjoy the outdoors Dusty would take full advantage. This included fishing with Grandpa Butch, camping, boating and hunting with his family.
His adventurous spirit carried into his adult years when he took up sky diving, snow-skiing in Colorado, Go-ped racing, paintballing and body building. When he wasn't out testing life's limits he could be found peacefully woodworking, which he took great pride in.
He always worked hard and currently worked at Maxim Construction Inc., framing homes, and Day Construction.
Dusty is survived by his mom, Cindy (Weirich) Cook of Atlantic; sister, Kasey Cook of Omaha; grandparents, Ron "Butch" and Lavone Weirich of Atlantic; uncle, Marvin (Doreen) Weirich; aunt, Rhonda (Todd) Osborn; cousins, Andrew (Amber Anne) Tye, Josh Tye, Amber Marie Tye, Lee Weirich, Jacquie Weirich, Ashley (Trent Anderson) Osborn, Ryan Osborn, and Sara Osborn; and countless friends.
He is preceded in death by his aunt, Gloria Weirich; cousins, Joseph Osborn and David Figgins; great-grandparents, Leonard and Gertrude Holmes; numerous great aunts and uncles; and his boxer, Roxie.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, with Pastor Ken Davidson officiating.
Committal services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Lewis, Iowa.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 14th at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.
