LAUREN WALLACE WEIR. DDS Dr. Lauren W. Weir was born October 14, 1917 to Dr. Matthew and Pearl (Parker) Weir in Grant, Iowa. He lived in Griswold, Iowa until attending Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. He went to dental school in St. Louis, Missouri. On November 26, 1941, he was united in marriage to Patricia Jane Hobson. Two daughters, Mary and Anne, were born of this union. He served in the Navy from 1942 - 1945. The family moved to Walnut, Iowa in 1946 where Dr. Weir practiced dentistry until his retirement. His first wife, Jane, died in 1979. In 1982 he was united in marriage to Helen Thiesen until her death. He resided at Peace Haven in Walnut, Iowa, Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa and then Heritage House in Atlantic until his death late Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at the age of 91. He will always be remembered for his love of camping, hunting, fishing and playing cards.Dr. Weir was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, three half brothers and a half sister.He is mourned by his two daughters, Mary (Mrs. Michael) Padgett of Melvindale, Michigan and Anne (Mrs. Elliott) Gordon of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.Funeral Information A memorial service for Dr. Wier will be held Friday afternoon, May 22, at 2:00 at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic with Pastor David Krueger of the United Presbyterian Church in Walnut officiating. The family will be at the funeral home to meet friends from 10:00A.M. until 6:00 P.M. on Friday. The Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic is caring for Lauren's family and the arrangements.
