Janet Watson

Janet A. Watson, 80, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Janet Allien (Miles) Watson was born July 21, 1938, to Walter Lincoln, Sr. and Josie (Geasland) Miles in rural Cherokee, Iowa, where she grew up and attended school. She was married to Ivan McKee in Sisseton, South Dakota. To this union, 10 children were born. They made their home in Mitchell, South Dakota, for several years before Janet relocated to Iowa. Her family recalls her baking delicious cakes and cookies while actively raising her seven sons and three daughters! She was boundlessly energetic and delighted in dancing, enjoying old Country Western Music, watching NASCAR Racing, and keeping up with her kids, grandkids, great grandkids and great-great grandkids. Janet worked as a waitress in several cafés for many years until she retired. She was a caring and wonderful woman who enjoyed people, received teasing with great humor and was loved by everyone. When things were quieter, she spent time doing puzzles, her Circle-a-Word book and, always a nurturer at heart, she loved to tend plants, as well. Christmas was her favorite holiday, though she truly loved all holidays and family gatherings.

Janet is survived by her children, Blanche Wadsley of Spencer, IA, Mary Norton of Lewis, IA, Dean and wife Theresa McKee of Sioux City, IA, Randy McKee of Sioux City, IA, Dennis McKee of Fairmont, MN, Rick McKee of Sauk Rapids, MN, David and wife Valerie McKee of Cedar Rapids, IA and Victoria and husband Louis Cusick of North Liberty, IA; her daughter-in-law, Katy McKee of Ashton, IA, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her sisters, Pat Decker of Two Rivers, WI and Grace Lafrentz of Galva, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Steven Wayne McKee and Michael Armond McKee; her parents, Walter, Sr. and Josie Miles; her husband, Ivan Charles McKee; her siblings, Walter Miles, Jr., William Miles, Eva Booher, John Miles and Margaret Larson; and son-in-law, Merlin Norton.

The family will greet friends on Thursday, July 26th, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the Roland Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, with Pastor Guy Fisher officiating.

Following cremation, a private family burial of the ashes will be held at a later date at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa.
