Obituary for Katherine Warren

Katherine Warren, age 101, passed away on April 12, 2008 at the Exira Care Center of Exira in Audubon County, Iowa. Katherine was born August 28, 1906, the daughter of William B. and Mary K. Berry. She has been a resident of the Atlantic area for her entire life. Katherine grew to womanhood west of Atlantic on her father"s farm six miles west of town, and she attended the Washington #3"s one room school house and graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1924. Katherine worked for Dr. Greenleaf in Atlantic before her marriage to Edgar D. Warren, in November, 1928. She and her husband farmed for some years southeast of Atlantic during the Market Crash of the 1929 and the Dust Bowl Days of the early 1930"s. In the mid 1930"s Katherine and her husband moved into Atlantic and in 1937 they moved into her grandparent"s house at 607 Cedar Street. Katherine lived there until the early 1980"s when she moved to the Cherry Hills Apartments, then as her health made it necessary for her to have a bit more assistance, she moved to the Allen House Assisted Living. In November of 2001 she had a heart attack, and then in June of 2002 it became necessary for her to go to the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa where she resided until her passing. Katherine and Edgar had no children, her nephew, Donald Berry and his wife, Mae, are her closest relatives. She worked at various cafes in Atlantic, and then she did a lot of babysitting for many families in town. Katherine was a great animal lover. Her cat and dog were her pride and joy. She loved to tell the story of when her cat and dog were playing CHASE and the cat was in retreat and made a jump into the bathtub that had water in it - so out came a very wet long haired cat and the race was definitely over. She was preceded in death by her husband Edgar; her parents, William and Mary Berry; her older sister who died at 13 days old; and her brother, David Ray Berry and his wife, Bessie. At the age of 101, many of her friends have passed on. She will be sadly missed by her few friends and family, but her health had become of poor quality so we will mourn her death but we know she is not hurting NOW. The survivors are her nephew Donald Berry and wife Mae; grandniece Janet Barringer and husband Bruce; a great grandnephew John R. Barringer of Oviedo, Florida; great grandnieces, Jennifer Mae Barringer of Boulder, Colorado and Emily Katherine Barringer of Orlando, Florida; grandnephews Keith Berry and wife Paulette; great grandnephew, Dennis Berry and daughter, Hayleigh Berry of Charlotte, N.C.; and great grandnieces Dana Eddinger and her daughter Caitlynn of Raleigh, N.C.; cousins, Ronald Paasch of Walnut, Iowa and Shirley Leeper and husband Ross of Indianola, Iowa, and friends.Funeral InformationKatherine"s family will meet with friends for a visitation at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday morning, April 19, one hour prior to her funeral which will be held at 10:30 Saturday at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.
