Helen M. Walter
Helen M. Walter, 83, passed away, February 9, 2003 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, after a short illness. Born June 1, 1919 and raised in Atlantic, Mrs. Walter graduated from Atlantic High School in 1937 and married Lee Walter of Lewis, Iowa, in 1938. After living in Atlantic and Onawa, they settled in Glenwood, Iowa, where they lived for several years. In 1957, they moved to Charles City, Iowa, where they owned their own grocery business. They retired in 1985 and settled back in Atlantic, later moving to Lewis, returning to Atlantic in 1999. Mrs. Walters interests included flying, getting her pilot's license, and flying her first solo flight in 1968. She was the daughter of John Hubert and Nell Pressnall, longtime resident of Atlantic and was the granddaughter of James Pressnall, a local Civil War veteran and civic leader in Atlantic for many years.She is survived by her husband, Lee Walter, of Atlantic; two children, Betty Thomas and James Walter, of Scottsdale, Arizona: a sister, Doris Sheets of Manchester, Tennessee; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A brother, James, passed away and 1998.Funeral InformationServices for Helen will be Wednesday, February 12. 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa. Reverend Clarence Landis of Atlantic is officiating. Interment is in the Atlantic Cemetery.
