Obituary for Jack D. Waggoner

JACK D. WAGGONER Jack D. Waggoner, 84, longtime resident of Atlantic passed away at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska on Saturday, July 11, 2009. Jack Duane Waggoner was born the son of Paul D. and Velma (South) in Cumberland, Iowa. He grew up in Cumberland and attended school there, graduating with the High School Class of 1942. He then attended AIB in Des Moines and went to work in California prior to joining the Navy. He was stationed in San Diego on Coronado Island. Jack was wed to Norma Goettsch in 1946 in Yuma, Arizona at the Greta Green Wedding Chapel. After their marriage, he sold cars in Atlantic until moving to a farm four miles north of Atlantic. The couple were blessed with two daughters. Jack served as president of the Pymosa School Board when the new township school was built. After selling the farm in 1959, the family moved into Atlantic where Jack sold Challenge Feeds. In 1965 he joined Investors Diversified Services (IDS) as a financial planner and in 1992 he was inducted into the IDS Hall of Fame. He was married to the "love of his life," Norma, for 62 years. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by taking the family to Alaska on an unforgettable cruise. He will be remembered as a person who never knew a stranger. Jack loved to meet people and to talk . . . always making those he talked with feel better as a result of the discussion. He loved his cars and always had several in his garages!! He liked them clean and "sporty" looking. He loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Australia, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Bahamas, Las Vegas, Arizona and California. He was a member of United Church of Christ and was a 50 year member of the Elks Club. He is survived by his two daughters, Linda Elliott of Omaha and Debra Waggoner of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two granddaughters, Tonya Elliott of Houston, Texas and Nicole Elliott of Los Angeles, California; a sister-in-law Betty Goettsch of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and his brother Darrel D. Waggoner and his wife Agnes of Atlantic.
