Obituary for Erma Turk

Erma Roberta Turk, age 87, a long time resident of Atlantic passed away Wednesday evening, October 1, 2003, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.Erma was born to Robert E. and Gladys (Drake) Smith May 29, 1916 on a farm outside of Wiota, IA. She grew up in the Wiota and Anita areas and graduated from Wiota High School in 1934. Erma worked at Scott's Five and Dime in Atlantic until her marriage to Walter C. Turk on July 7, 1950 at Rockport, MO. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic and was active with the United Methodist Women serving in the Esther circle. Erma was a red lady with the Cass County Memorial Hospital auxiliary and volunteered over 4000 hours in service. Erma enjoyed fishing, gardening, dancing and helping as secretary to Turk Roofing.She is survived by two daughters, Karla and husband Larry Gustason of Kirkman, IA and Jonell and husband Jack Cook of Mt. Ayr, IA; one son Darwin Turk and wife Ruth of Lewis, IA; seven grandchildren, Brent Gustason and wife Linda of Campbellsport, WI, Kevin Gustason and wife Lu of Evergreen, CO, Colette and husband Stacy Sternhagen of Cedar Falls, IA, Rachael and husband Anthony Christensen of Atlantic, IA, Andrea Turk of Lewis, IA, Brian Cook and wife Andrea of Brooklyn, IA, Scott Cook of Mr. Ayr, IA; five great grandchildren, Quinn Gustason, Ashley and Austin Sternhagen, Ty and Trey Cook; a step great granddaughter, Dani Capra; a brother Charles D. Smith and wife Marge of Des Moines, IA; a sister-in-law Rosella Reeves of Omaha, NE and two nephews Dennis Cryler of Cedar Falls, IA and Bill Knight of TexasErma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister Evelyn Cryer and a nephew Garland Cryer.Funeral InformationServices for Erma is scheduled for 10:30 Saturday morning, October 4, 2003, at the Roland Funeral Home with Pastor Gary DeGeest of the First United Methodist Church officiating with interment in the Atlantic Cemetery. There will be a visitation Friday evening October 3 at Roland from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
