Beverly B. Thomsen
Beverly Blanche (Layton) Rossmann Thomsen, a long time resident of Atlantic, IA passed away Saturday, November 18. 2006 in Conroe, Texas at the age of 86.Beverly was born May 31, 1920 to Charles E. and Helen (Dorsey) Layton. She grew up and was educated in the Atlantic area. She graduated with the Atlantic High School Class of 1937. She was married to Everett Henry Rossmann on February 26, 1941 in Walnut, Iowa. They owned and operated the Rossmann Dairy in Walnut before Everett entered the U.S. Army in 1945. After he was discharged, they moved to Atlantic. After Everett's passing in 1991, Beverly was united in marriage to Bruce Thomsen in 1993. Bruce passed away in 2002. She loved quilting, golf and baking cookies for her grandchildren and to them she was known as Cookie Grandma. Beverly was a 50-year member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic, a charter member of Nishna Hills Golf Course where she had scored a hole-in-one, a Doe in the Elks organization, and a member of Eastern Star.Surviving Beverly is her son, Duane K. Rossmann and wife Barbara of Conroe, TX; daughters-in-law, Linda Rossmann and Patty Rossmann; stepson, B. David Thomsen and wife Deni of Atlantic, stepdaughters, Eileen Engard and husband Bill of Clive, IA and Peggy Lund and husband Chuck of Urbandale, IA; a brother, Wilbur "Bill" Layton and wife Gloria of Edina, MN; a sister, Helen Bryson and husband Arthur of Palo Alto, CA; grandchildren, Dean Rossmann, Peter Rossmann, Samuel Rossmann, Patrick Rossmann, Anna Rossmann, Rebecca Rossmann and Michael Rossmann; stepgrand-children, Toni Wilson and husband Francis, Troy Lund, Michelle Engelbracht and husband Mike, Stephanie Phipps and husband Tony, Andrea and Davy Thomsen; numerous nieces and nephews and among many friends, her longtime close friend, Mildred Bair of Atlantic.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Everett and Bruce and her two sons, Alan Rossmann and Dennis Rossmann.The family will meet with friends for visitation, at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, on Sunday afternoon from 4:00 until 6:00. The committal service will be held at 10:00AM Monday, November 27, in the Atlantic Cemetery, prior to a memorial. Bev's memorial service will be held Monday morning, at 11:00AM at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic.
