Howard Thompson

Howard Andrew Thompson, 82, a resident of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 12, 2002, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.The son of Andrew E. and Mary Ellen (Masteller) Thompson, Howard was born October 11, 1919 in Union Township. He lived on a farm in Union Township until moving to Atlantic in 1952. He graduated from Wiota High School. Howard was united in marriage to Wilma Ardell Martens on June 20, 1948 at the Presbyterian Church in Atlantic. Howard was a farmer and later a mechanic for Sothman Motor Co., Iowa Chemical Corp. and Hellman's Machine Shop, retiring October 11, 1981. He was a member of the Atlantic Gospel Chapel, Nishna Valley Chordsmen, Atlantic Lions Club and Southwest Iowa - John Deere two Cylinder Club.Surviving are his wife, Ardell; two daughters, Ruth Turk and husband, Darwin, of Lewis and Joyce Anderson of Atlantic; five grandchildren, Colette Sternhagen and husband, Anthony, of Lewis, Andrea Turk of Lewis, Justin Anderson and Jason Anderson, both of Atlantic; one great-granddaughter, Ashley Sternhagen, of Cedar Falls; and one sister, Eleanor Skelly, of Atlantic.He is preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Robert Anderson; and a brother-in-law, Albert Skelly.Funeral InformationServices for Howard will be held at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, April 15, 2002, with Lloyd "Bud" Lindeman and Arnold "Bob" Lindeman of Atlantic officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
