Obituary for Helen Thomason

Helen Thomason, a resident of Atlantic passed away Sunday evening, January 4, 2004 at the Heritage House in Atlantic.Helen was born the daughter of J. Albin and Anna Wilhelmina (Hult) Maxwell in Montgomery County, Iowa on July 25, 1911. She'd Had a Country School and Graduated from Red Oak High School in 1928 and then attended Red Oak Junior-College. Helen taught in Montgomery County rural school and later attended Wayne State Teachers College Where She Received a Two-Year Teacher's Certificate. She then taught in Coburg and Stanton schools.Helen was married to Donald S. Thomason February 3, 1943 in Mapleton, Oregon where they lived for eight years. In Mapleton, she tied junior and senior high school. The couple later moved back to Iowa, living in Red Oak and Atlantic where she lived until her death.Helen was baptized and confirmed in the Tabor Lutheran Church in Stanton, Iowa. Later, she became a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Swisshome, Oregon, the Methodist Church in Red Oak and at last, was a member of the Methodist Church in Atlantic. Helen enjoyed golfing, and she and her husband spend their winters in the South. She was a member of the Atlantic golf and country club and enjoyed three-holes in one at the Nishna Hills and Fountain of the Sun in Arizona.Helen is survived by two sisters, Effie Mewhirter of Atlantic and Ruth Beck of Lawrence, Kansas, two sisters-in-law; Lucille Maxell of Atlantic and Iona Maxell of Stanton, also several nieces and nephews; John D. Maxell, Thomas L. Mewhirter and wife, Betty, Joe B. Mewhirter and wife Barbara, Jack A. Mewhirter and wife Donna, James R Mewhirter in wife Martha, Marvin D. Maxell and wife Judy, Ronnie Maxell and wife Ann, Ann Ruppel and husband, Kenneth, Barry Beck and wife Mary, Jane Harris and husband Bo, Linda Paglio and husband Lonn, Mark back and wife, Marta and Julie Nicolaisen and husband Roger.Proceeding her in death were her parents, her husband Donald in 1995, brothers; John Marion and Clarence Maxell; a sister Minnie Maxell; brothers in law Donald Beck and Lee Mewhirter.Funeral Information
