Thomas “Tom” James Ring, the son of Andrew and Dorothy Ring, was born on July 3, 1946, in Omaha, Nebraska. Tom was baptized and confirmed at St. Columbanus Church in Weston, Iowa. He grew up in the rural Underwood, Iowa, area attending Tri Center School. He passed away at home in Elk Horn, Iowa, after a lengthy illness.
He married Jacqueline June Wiechman on February 17, 1968. Their first home was in Massena, IA, moving to Atlantic, IA, on December 23, 1969. They resided in Atlantic until September 2006, when they moved to their present home in Elk Horn.
He was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Atlantic. Over the years he served as a deacon, roasted the hog for the yearly hog roast and served as a youth leader for many years. Tom was a former member of the Atlantic and Elk Horn Fire Departments, Scout Leader for Troop 54, Honorably Discharged from the Iowa National Guard, and a member of Elk Horn American Legion Post 322.
He was employed by Schildberg Construction Co., Atlantic Steel, owned and operated Ring Welding in Atlantic, and retired from Henningsen Construction as Shop Foreman in 2014. He loved helping farmers harvest their crops and had a cow/calf herd which was the highlight of his life.
Tom and Jackie enjoyed several special vacations… Alaska, Hawaii, Nashville, Branson and the Grand Canyon taken prior to his bone marrow transplant in 2023. Tom also enjoyed playing some golf, bartending, dancing, hunting, and in his later years especially enjoyed his role as grandfather and great-grandfather.
Tom was devoted to his family and is survived by his wife, Jacqueline of Elk Horn; his children, Andy (Kristi) Ring of Elk Horn, Dan (Amanda) Ring of Minden, IA; four grandchildren, Carlin Ring, Lane (Hannah) Ring, Kallen Ring and Raegan Ring; two great-granddaughters, Briar and Lyla Ring; three step-grandchildren, Dustin, Evan (Erin), and Alise; six step-great-grandchildren; brother, Mick Ring of Neola, IA; sister, Susie (John) Jarosz of Cedar Rapids, NE; sister-in-law, Susan of Fullerton, NE; brother-in-law, Bill (Lynn) Wiechman of Clarinda, Iowa, a number of nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Gene Ring; infant twins, Joseph and Mary; parents-in-law, Clarence and Arline Wiechman, and brother-in-law, Richard Wiechman.
Visitation with family present will be Sunday afternoon, November 2nd, 2025 at United Church of Christ in Atlantic from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Funeral Services will be the following morning, Monday, November 3rd, 2025 starting at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Heather Santi-Brown will be presiding over the services. Military Rites will be presented by the Elk Horn American Legion Post #322.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for all the acts of kindness and wish to invite everyone to share in a luncheon in the fellowship hall immediately following the military rites outside the church. Burial will follow in Victoria Township Cemetery, south of Massena, IA.
The service will be livestreamed and recorded for those unable to attend. Please go to the main page of the uccatlantic.org website to watch the funeral service live. The recording of the service will also be available at the Roland Funeral Service website on Tuesday afternoon.
