John E. Taylor
Elwood Taylor, 88, longtime resident of Dallas Center and Cumberland, Iowa died, on Friday, April 28 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.Elwood was born the son of John E. and Agnes (Pew) Taylor on October 11, 1917 in Columbus, New Jersey. He grew up in Columbus and worked at a dairy and at a feed mill for several years. He was married to E. Margaret Osen on May 2, 1942 in New Egypt, New Jersey. Following the marriage the couple lived in New Egypt. In 1947 they moved to Menlo, Iowa for five years and later to Cumberland, where he worked as a farm laborer. He farmed in Mason City, Illinois, Massena, Lewis and was in Dallas Center for 27 years until retiring to Cumberland.He will be known for expressing his love for his wife of 64 years, his family and his Lord. Elwood is survived by his wife, Margaret; his daughter, Mary Nielsen and her husband, Lynn of Cedar Falls; his son, Joel Taylor and his wife, Merry of Colorado Springs; five grandchildren, Annelie Heinen and her husband, Matt of Des Moines, Zachary Nielsen and his wife, Kim of Antioch, Tennessee, Kelly Blakesley and her husband, Erin of Denver, Colorado, Joy Rogers and her husband, Zack of Lafayette, Colorado, and Holly Taylor of Colorado Springs, Colorado and six great grandchildren, Noelle, Aidan, and Sophia Rogers and Taylor and Autumn Nielsen and Juliana Heinen.He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, John David; his three brothers, Stacey Taylor, Willard Taylor and Gene Taylor and three sisters, Evelyn, Verna and Eleanor.The committal will be held Tuesday, May 2 at 9:30 A.M. at the Menlo Cemetery in Menlo, Iowa. The memorial service will follow at 11:30 A.M. at the First Methodist Church in Cumberland with Pastor Dick Krambeck officiating. A luncheon will then be served at the church.
