Sidney "Sid" Rossell

Sidney “Sid” Rossell, 78, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Monday, November 29, 2021, at his home.

Sidney Lee was born on September 11, 1943, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Eldred Oral and Wilma Augusta (Breckerbaumer) Rossell. He was born to be a farmer and showed this at an early age from his dedication to helping his dad to being more interested in buying his first tractor rather than a car. Sid attended Lewis High School and graduated from Griswold High School in 1961, after the schools consolidated.

He was united in marriage to Sandi Frizzell and to this union Shelli, Steven and Stanley were born. The couple raised their family on the homeplace.

Farming was his passion and his life; truly living and breathing it every single day for 78 years. Sid planted row crops and raised cattle; he was a great cattleman and built some of the best cattle facilities in southwest Iowa. He frequented cattle auctions and land sales and seemed to be able to use “his way” to get the best deal. Sid was always thinking of the next step and how to better his operation. In an article written by Tom McLaren in October of 2018, Sid was referred to as the Donald Trump of farming.

It is hard to have “hobbies” when your love of agriculture is so great!! When Sid wasn’t at the farm, he was getting his fill of it at home watching RFD-TV or online cattle auctions. He was one of kind; never hesitating to tell you what was on this mind and always would give you a good laugh. Sid was tough to read and a little “rough” on the edges, but truly had a heart of gold and loved his family deeply.

Sid is survived by his partner of 20 years, Sharon Wolford; daughter, Shelli Baldridge of Tyler, Texas; sons, Steven (Brandy) Rossell of Lewis and Stanley Rossell of Lewis; nine grandchildren, Lisa (Patrick) New, Travis (Julia) Baldridge, Ayden Rossell, Brenna Rossell, Camden Rossell, Emma Rossell, Ella Rossell, Elana Rossell and Hanna (Tyler) Turner; three great-grandchildren; and cat companion, Benny, aka Ben.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Eldred and Wilma Rossell.
