Richard Lee Swolley
Richard (Dick) Lee Swolley, Sr., age 58, of Atlantic, passed away Thursday evening, October 18, 2001, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.The son of Carl George and Helen Luella (King) Swolley, he was born October 6, 1943 in Atlantic, Iowa. He grew up in Atlantic and attended the Atlantic High School. Dick was united in marriage to Virginia Cerka on November 1, 1962 in Atlantic. In December of 1962, he joined the United States Marines and following his honorable discharge, he returned to Atlantic where he has remained throughout his life. Dick was employed for over 30 years as a truck driver, part of that time with Cornhusker, Inc., retiring in 1996.He is survived by five children, Richard (Rich) Swolley, Jr. of Atlantic, Tina Waldron and her husband Daryl of Council Bluffs, Lisa Swolley and special friend Don Boggs of Atlantic, Dan Swolley of Mt. Prospect, Illinois, and Robert Swolley of Council Bluffs, Iowa; four sisters, Barb Kuntzweiler of De Soto, Iowa, Virginia Pedersen and her husband Melvin of Exira, Iowa, Janet Popp and her husband Darrel of Avoca, Iowa and Audrey Sellers and her husband Tim of Atlantic; one brother Carl George Swolley of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Levi Swolley and Brayton Waldron.Dick was preceded in death by his parents.Funeral InformationServices for Dick will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2001, at 10:00 AM at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa with Pastor Ron Barnett of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic officiating. Interment will be in the Southlawn Memory Gardens in Atlantic.
