Obituary for Loyd Swift

Loyd Swift, 89, former resident of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26 at the University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska following a short illness. Loyd was the first born, of 10 children, to Lee and Annie (Hoover) Swift on September 28, 1918, in Buffalo, Missouri. He grew up and attended school in Missouri. Loyd was married to Florence Carr in 1941. The couple lived in Red Oak, Iowa where they enjoyed raising their five children. He farmed, trucked and was a mechanic ~ self employed for several years. Loyd spent his latter years living with his daughter Mary and her husband Mick in Papillion, NE. While residing with the Boots family, he loved to get on his electric wheelchair and to head to a nearby park where he would watch the ducks on the pond. He attended the Church of God of Prophecy. He"ll be remembered for his love of being with family and friends. Surviving children are Richard & wife Barbara Swift of The Colony, TX, David & wife Norma Swift of Deltona, Fl, Barbara & husband Ed Blank of Shenandoah, IA, Mary & husband Mick Boots, of Papillion, NE, and Dallas & wife Linda Swift of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 36 great grand children; three brothers, Luther Swift and wife Helen of Cloud Croft, NM, Chuck Swift and wife Jean of Nixa, MO and Lowell Swift and wife Norma of Hobbs, NM; and one sister, Lorene Claunch of Hobbs, NM. Also surviving are seven brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John & Phyllis Carr of Atlantic, IA, Jerry & Carol Carr of Winston Salem, NC, Fred & Betty Nagel of Atlantic, IA, Irene Nagel of Shenandoah, IA, Leona Gard of Atlantic, IA, Gordon & Doris Kinnison of Omaha, NE and Larry & Sharon Rock of Atlantic, IA. He was preceded in death by his wife Florence; daughter Nancy; parents; three brothers, Larry, Dale and Lelean; and two sisters, Ilene Resh and Lois Hamilton.Funeral InformationLoyd"s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. The funeral service will be Saturday, December 29, at 10 o"clock in the morning, also at Rolands. Pastor James Endecott of Council Bluffs, IA Church of God of Prophecy will officiate and the committal service will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak, Iowa following a luncheon, in which the family will join guests at the funeral home following the funeral service.
