DARRELL DEAN SUNDERMANDarrell Dean Sunderman, of Walnut, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 76.Darrell was born on May 12, 1932 to Sam and Ethel (Toepfer) Sunderman in Atlantic, Iowa. He attended school at theAtlantic Community Schools. In 1951 Darrell joined the Marine Corp and became a gunnery sergeant during the Korean war and he loved being a marine. On August 22, 1954 Darrell was united in marriage to Betty Beckendorf at the Lewis Methodist Church in Lewis, Iowa and of this union two sons were born, Sam and Steve. He was a loving husband and father. Darrell was a boiler inspector and safety engineer for a number of years. His family and friends will remember Darrell as being friendly and outgoing and he will be greatly missed.Survivors include his wife Betty of Walnut; a son Steve Sunderman and wife Michelle of Walnut; a step granddaughter Jenny Bunker of Manning, Iowa; a brother-in-law Bob Beckendorf and wife Beverly of Walnut, special friends, nieces and nephews.Darrell is preceded in death by son Sam Sunderman; his parents and sister Jean Johnson.Funeral InformationGraveside services for Darrell will be held Saturday morning, November 15. at 9:30 AM at the Walnut Cemetery at Walnut, Iowa with Pastor David Kruger of the Presbyterian Church officiating.
