Obituary for
George F Stuetelberg
George F. Stuetelberg, 84, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at home.
George Frederick Stuetelberg was born on September 11, 1930, in Wiota, Iowa, the son of Frederick Henry and Gertrude (Jorgensen) Stuetelberg. George graduated from Wiota High School in 1948. Following graduation he worked at the Atlantic State Bank until he was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany and Austria.
George married Thelma E. Johnson on March 17, 1951 at the Wiota United Methodist Church. While raising their boys they spent many weekends camping, golfing and boating on various lakes around Iowa. He spent his working career with his friends at Walnut Grove and truly has continued to enjoy those relationships after retiring in 1989.
In his years of retirement he enjoyed winter excursions to Arizona, Texas and Florida. He most liked visiting the casinos in those destinations and his local favorites in Iowa. George was able to make the Freedom Flight to Washington D.C. with many of his friends from Atlantic and Southwest Iowa. This was a very memorable experience and he spoke of it frequently.
George was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic and over the years held memberships at both Nishna Hills Golf Club and the Atlantic Country Club. He loved golf and played with his friends frequently until his health made it too difficult in recent years.
George is survived by his sons, Mark (Belinda) Stuetelberg of Cranberry Township, PA, along with their children Brian (Kristi) Stuetelberg of Kansas City, MO, and great grandson, George, Lindsey (Eric) Brown of Omaha, NE; son, David (Julia) Stuetelberg of Austin, TX, along with their children Ryan (Sandy) Stuetelberg of Fort Worth, TX, Eric (Emily) Stuetelberg of Austin, TX, and Tyler Stuetelberg of San Antonio, TX; son Gary (Jane) Stuetelberg of Atlanta, GA, along with their children, Jessica (Matthew) Davis of Birmingham, AL, Mitch Stuetelberg of Auburn, AL, and Kyle Stuetelberg of Atlanta, GA; loving companion, Bonnie Allen and her family; brother, Robert Stuetelberg of Atlantic, IA; sisters-in-law, Isla Stuetelberg of Omaha, NE, Delma Bennett of Elk Horn, IA, Lyla (Jim) Weber of Anita, IA, Roberta Thompson of Omaha, NE, Darlene Johnson of Chiefland, FL; brother-in-law, James Johnson of Denver, CO; along with numerous nieces nephews, and many wonderful friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Gertrude Stuetelberg; wife, Thelma Stuetelberg; brothers, Fred and Harold Stuetelberg; and sister, Mildred Kerr.
