Frieda Stringfellow

Frieda Caroline Stringfellow, 95, a long time resident of Atlantic, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.The daughter of Mathias and Marie Katherine (Larsen) Christiansen, Freda was born October 9, 1906 south of Atlantic, Iowa. She grew up in the Cass and Audubon county areas. She was confirmed in the Oak Hill Lutheran Church in Brayton, Iowa. Freda worked as a telephone operator at Northwestern Bell for five years prior to her marriage. She was united in marriage to Darryl William Stringfellow, April 20, 1930, by Rev. Lawrence Siersbeck at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church. They moved to Hampton, Iowa that year and then to Montevideo, Minnesota in 1931. They retired to Atlantic in 1976. Freda was an active member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church.She is survived by six nieces and nephews; Romaine Bortvedt and her husband, Kenneth, of Portland, Oregon; Kenneth Christiansen and his wife, Alice, of Omaha, Nebraska; Marie Nielsen and her husband, Don, of Atlantic; Pastor Kenneth Jensen and his wife, Bonnie, of Blair, Nebraska; Jerry Stringfellow and his wife, Marilyn, of Florida; and Janet Benner and her husband, Patrick of Keokuk, Iowa; as well as a number of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.Proceeding her in death were her husband; her parents; two brothers, Ernest Christiansen (in infancy) and Fred Christiansen; and a sister, Clara Jensen.Funeral InformationServices for Freda will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Ron Barnett officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
