Lucille Straight

Lucille Straight passed away May 25th, at the age of 98, at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in Atlantic, Iowa. Lucille was born, the oldest of four children, on September 2, 1909 to Jessie (Lefleur) Johnson and Walter Johnson in the rural Atlantic area. She lived around the Atlantic, Lewis and Griswold areas until she finished school and moved to California. Once settled in California, she met and married William Ted Straight. The couple moved to Gardenia where she worked for Air Research. She and Ted retired in 1973 and moved to Atlantic. In 1975 her husband passed away. She remained in their home until 2005 when she made her new home at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab where she resided her remaining years. Lucy loved football and most sports. She was an avid golfer and played in many tournaments. As a young lady she loved horses and even rode as a jockey. She also was great at oil painting and could just look at a picture and paint it. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Atlantic. Her family will remember her as having been good to everyone. She is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband and parents; two sisters, Ethel Burris and Irene Rothe; her brother Wayland Johnson; two brothers-in-law, Fred Burris and Bruce Rothe.
