Obituary for Esther Louise Stowe

Esther Louise Stowe, 85, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2002, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.The daughter of Henry Samuel and Elsie L. (McVey) McCrory, Esther was born August 22, 1916 in Pymosa Township, Cass County, Iowa where she grew up and attended school. She was united in marriage to Charles Arthur Stowe on May 15, 1941 in Blair, Nebraska. Following marriage, they lived north of Atlantic on Olive Street and in the rural Elk Horn area before moving to Atlantic in 1974. Esther worked as a nurse's aide at the Atlantic Hospital for ten years. She was a long time member of Buck Creek United Methodist Church and UMW before joining the United Church of Christ in Atlantic and Women's Society.Surviving are her husband, Charles Stowe of Atlantic; one daughter, Kathleen Scarf and husband, David, of Norfolk, Nebraska; one son, Dwight Stowe of Yankton, South Dakota; two granddaughters, Jill Stowe of Litchfield Park, Arizona and Jessica Ranney and husband, Nat, of Council Bluffs; two great-grandchildren, Phoenix and Griffin Ranney; two sisters, Virginia Eblen of Atlantic and Ruth Norton and husband, Reeve, of Springfield, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Gladys McCrory of Atlantic; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, George McCrory; and one sister, Mary Elizabeth Joyce.Funeral InformationFuneral services for Esther will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2002, at the United Church of Christ in Atlantic at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Sue Hyndman officiating.Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
