Charles A. Stowe
Charles Arthur Stowe, age 94, passed away Thursday morning, August 24, 2006 in Norfolk, Nebraksa after living a short period of time in the Madison House in Norfolk. Charles was a long time resident of the Atlantic, Iowa area.Charles Stowe was born May 16, 1912 to Arthur and Jessie Katellie (Bennett) Stowe in Lebanon, MO. He attended country school for eight years then at the age of 16, he moved to Atlantic and started farming and farmed all of his life. On May 15, 1941 Charles was united in marriage to Esther L. McCrory in Blair, NE. Following their marriage, they farmed on the Wilburn Farm north of Atlantic on Olive Street and later they moved to the Long Farm south of Elk Horn, IA before moving to Atlantic in 1974. Charles served on the board of the Buck Creek Methodist Church and on the board at Pymosa School. He also was a trustee and served on the board of the Atlantic United Church of Christ. Charles enjoyed playing softball when he was young along with fishing and hunting. He liked his dogs and raised cattle, sheep and hogs on his farm. Charles loved being with his family and enjoyed all the family activities.He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Scarf and husband, David of Norfolk, NE, and a son, Dwight Stowe of Yankton, SD; two granddaughters, Jill Cooney and husband, Greg of Flagstaff, AZ, and Jessica Ranney and husband, Nat of Council Bluffs, IA; four great grandchildren, Phoenix and Griffin Ranney and Mairin and Mary Cooney; sisters-in-law, Virginia Eblen, Gladys McCrory of Atlantic, IA and Myrtle Stowe of Lebanon, MO; one brother-in-law Reeve Norton of Springfield, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther in 2002; brothers, Everett Stowe and Lem Stowe and a sister, Mary Kastler.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 29, at 10:00A at the Atlantic United Church of Christ with Reverend Dr. Mary Hanse officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
