Obituary for
Donald "Donnie" W Stormer
Donald "Donnie" Stormer, 80, of Elk Horn and formerly of Atlantic, passed away Friday, January 6, 2017, at Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn.
Donald Wayne Stormer was born on June 18, 1936, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Chester A. and Mary Evelyn (Lane) Stormer. He was raised and attended school in Atlantic. Following high school he worked a number of years for Ray Arn's Ambulance Service. He also worked for over 25 years at Cass County Memorial Hospital in laundry. Those that worked with him referred to him as "Mr. Clean" because he routinely wore all white. Donnie rarely ate a meal at home, so when he didn't get something in the hospital cafeteria he often stopped at Darnold's or Van's Chat and Chew for a bite. When his health began to fail he moved to Salem Lutheran Home to be closer to his niece, Tracie, where he had resided for the last 10 years. He was fortunate to get to see family members almost every day, because they worked at Salem. As a result of their closeness, he quickly became Uncle Donnie to all the other staff, as well.
Donnie loved to fish, and could often be found, even as a kid, casting a line on the banks of the Nishnabotna. In later years, he enjoyed just sitting and taking in the scenery. He collected cars of various makes and models, and when it was time for something new he usually offered them for a deal to his great-nieces and nephews. Donnie looked forward to spending time with family. Time together usually resulted in his ornery side coming out which included teasing, telling jokes, and great stories that he somehow convinced you may be true.
Uncle Donnie is survived by his nieces, Tracie (Jerry) Evans of Elk Horn, Sue Gaines of Atlantic, and Amy Jo Madden of Atlantic; 12 great-nieces and nephews; many great-great-nieces and nephews; and sister, Maye Ellen Babbitt of Shelby.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Doris Scott and Betty Petersen; and brother, Raymond Stormer.
Cremation has taken place and no services will be held.
Roland Funeral Home is caring for Donnie's family and his arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.
