Irene Stirek

Irene Rose Stirek, 75, of rural Griswold passed away Saturday, January 13, 2001, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.The daughter of Jim and Rose Bohac Novak, Irene was born March 22, 1925, in Omaha where she grew up and graduated from South High School in 1943. She was employed at Cudah"s Meat Packing Plant during World War II. Irene was united in marriage to Louis Stirek on July 25, 1946, in Marysville, Kansas. Following marriage they farmed around Omaha and in the Gretna area before moving to the present farm 4 1/2 miles west of Griswold. Irene was a member of the American Legion auxiliary Post #508 at Griswold and was also a member of the Friendly Neighbors Club. She was employed at Kmart in Atlantic, Iowa for 10 years until her retirement in 1990. Besides enjoying her family, Irene enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, crossword puzzles, crocheting, sewing, and playing cards and bingo.Surviving are four sons, Lewis Stirek, Jr. and his wife, June, of Bellevue, Nebraska, Jim Stirek and his wife, Dorothy, of Atlantic, Iowa, Jerry Stirek of Longmont, Colorado and Tom Stirek of Griswold, Iowa; three daughters, Joyce Enfield and her husband, Mel, of Anita, Iowa, Peggy Foote and her husband, Ron of Healdsburg, California and Deborah Ernst and her husband Eldon, of Adair, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Brian Stirek of Griswold, Michelle Blaha and her husband, Bob, of Bellevue, Nebraska, Chris and Robby Foote of Healdsburg, California, Lori Spicer and her husband, Jason, of Thornton, Colorado, Cindy Enfield and her special friend, Jake, of Waterloo, Kristi Enfield and her special friend, William "Willie&" Dennis, of Des Moines, and Doug Stirek and his special friend, Missy Christianson of Atlantic; three great grandsons, Ryan and Jacob Blaha of Bellevue, Nebraska and Dustin Enfield of Des Moines; two-step grandchildren, Wane Bruner and wife Nadine, of Bellevue and Dan Bruner and his wife, Julie, of Omaha; three great step grandchildren, Kaylene Richardson of Bellevue, Jessica Bruner of Omaha, and Adrienne Bruner of Bellevue; one sister, Jean Kuncel and her husband, Joe, of Omaha; one Aunt, Bess Meisinger of Bellevue; one sister-in-law, Bessie Benak of Omaha; one brother-in-law, Stanley Stirek and his wife, Rose, of Blair, Nebraska; and a number of nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Louis in 1979.Roland Funeral Service -- Atlantic, IowaFuneral InformationServces for Irene were held Saturday, January 20, 2001, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa with Pastor Ron Barnett officiating.Interment was in the Atlantic Cemetery at Atlantic, Iowa.
