Obituary for
Delores "Dee" Stevens
Delores E. Stevens, 81, of Atlantic, passed away Monday, July 13, 2015, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Delores Evelyn was born on December 23, 1933, in Delavan, Minnesota, the daughter of Louis and Martha (Wilke) Paulson. She was the second oldest of 10 children born to this union. The family had a farming operation and when Delores was a senior in high school her father passed away. She and her sisters stepped in to keep the farm running, and today it is still owned and operated by family. She graduated from Mantorville High School in 1951.
Following graduation Delores began work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Rochester, Minnesota. On November 20, 1954, she married Richard "Dick" James Stevens in Mantorville. The couple was blessed with three daughters and one son. In 1970, they made Atlantic home when Dick accepted a position with Atlantic Municipal Utilities. Delores worked in the housewares department at KMART during the 1980's, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Most of all Delores loved being a wife, mother and homemaker, and took great pride in caring for her family. Delores was a talented seamstress, who sewed countless outfits for her children. She also crocheted, embroidered and sewed many quilts for her grandchildren. She was a member of S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic.
Delores is survived by her daughters, Lynnette Mary Johnson of Atlantic, IA, Michelle Marie Atwood and husband, Edward of Murphysboro, IL and Jacalyn Marie Stevens of Columbus, Ohio; son, Jeffery James Stevens of Atlantic, IA, 11 grandchildren, Scott Martens, Jennifer Marksmiller, Bryan Martens, Cynthia Clere, Alisha Johnson, Sharon Bynum, Josiah Hair, Matthew Hair, Jacob Stevens, Sean Stevens and Rebecca Stevens; 26 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marilyn Fiegel and Bernice (Rollie) O'Groske; brothers, Everett (April) Paulson and Jerry Paulson; sister-in-law, Martha Maser; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard in 2009; and five brothers and sisters.
