Flora Mcneil Steffen
Flora Steffen passed from this life and into her new life on Saturday morning January 11, 2003. Born November 19, 1916, she was 86. Flora died at the Atlantic Care Center in the arms of Morris, her loving husband of 51 years. They would have celebrated 52 years of marriage on January 27. Flora lived a full life. She was born in Larkhall, Scotland as Flora McNeil Gardiner and immigrated to the United States at the age of six with her parents, three brothers and two sisters. She grew up in a Christian home in Chariton, Iowa where her father was a preacher and coal-miner. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior as a young girl and endured the hardships of the depression and the coal-mining community in which she lived. Both of these events shaped her entire life and world view. As a young adult, she lived in Des Moines and spent eleven years working for Iowa Packing. During this time, she met Morris Steffen and they married in 1951. Together they adopted and raised three children. The family farmed and lived in several locations in the Elliott, Grant and Lewis areas. They were part of the Lyman Gospel Hall church family. Flora was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Flora Gardiner; her three brothers, Daniel, John and Robert Gardiner and her two sisters, Margaret Williams and Rebecca Patterson. She is survived by her husband Morris, son, Kenneth and his wife Rose and children Ryan and Ashley of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter Theresa and Rick Jackson and children Kerri Wattier of Omaha, Titus, Travis and Tyler Jackson all of Griswold and son Craig and his wife Cindy of spring Valley, Ohio. Flora also enjoyed three great grand children, Brandon and Brianna Wattier and Naudia Jacson. She also has many beloved nieces and nephews. Flora will have many to sustain her memory and continue the example of Faith and perseverance she has set.Funeral InformationServices for Flora will be held on January 15, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic with Pastor Glenn Lightfoot of Newton, Kansas officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Township Cemetery south of Griswold, Iowa.
