Louise Matilda Spies, 82, a resident of the Colonial Manor in Anita, Iowa, passed away there Saturday, November 9, 2002.The daughter of Fred Pete in Minne Gertrude (Behnken) Behrends, Louise was born July 14, 1920 south of Wiota, Iowa where she grew up and attended school in Franklin Township. Louise was united in marriage to Durward Spies on June 4, 1941 in Maryville, MO. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church south of Wiota.Louise is survived by one son, Lamar Spies, of Wiota; one daughter, Sheryl Bowers and her husband, Duane, of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren, Stacy McIntyre and her husband, Sam, Diane Neitzel and her husband, Rick, all of San Antonio, Texas; Deborah Dalton and her husband, Gary, of Kansas City, Missouri, Susan Learned and Suzanne Bowers, both of Colorado Springs, Colorado; seven great-grandchildren, Michael Bowers, Savannah and Cameron Nitzel, Tiffany and Cody Dalton, and Megan and Valery Learned; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete Behrends, January 14, 1967, and Minnie Behrends, July 9, 1974; her husband, Durward Spies, February 13, 1972; one brother, Ernest Behrends, March 13, 1972; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Spies, November 23, in 1986; and one grandson, Stephen Bowers, January 26, 1986.Funeral InformationFuneral services for Louise will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2002, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church south of Wiota, Iowa at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Ted Weishaupt officiating. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery south of Wiota.
