Luella Smith

Luella Pauline Smith, 91, of Atlantic, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs.

Luella Smith was born January 8, 1925, to Jess and Grace (Cozad) Logue at their home in Cumberland. She attended rural school near Cumberland and graduated with the High School Class of 1943. On January 19, 1945, she was united in marriage to Lyle Richard Smith at the Christian Church in Atlantic. Six children were born to this union. They lived in the Wiota and Massena areas until they made their home in Atlantic in 1949. She was employed at Cass County Memorial Hospital, as a nurses' aide, until she retired in 1989. Lyle passed away March 18, 1986. After retirement she worked part-time as an assistant at a day care center. She enjoyed her home in Atlantic, but moved to Hamlin to live with her daughter Ida in 2012. Luella enjoyed gardening, embroidering, and puzzles .

Luella was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; infant son, Glen Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Lola and Ron Hendrickson; parents; and brothers and sisters, Lloyd, Edwin, Verlee, Gloria, and Zelma.

She is survived by her children: Carl (Rosie) Smith of Springfield, MO; Neil (Patricia) Smith of Blaine, MN; Wade (Terri) Smith of Atlantic, IA; Ida (Jeff) Oles of Hamlin, IA; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, Wayne Logue of Atlantic, Louis (Rosemary) Logue of Dallas, TX, Betty Mudd of Eden Prairie, MN, Jim (Carol) Logue of Atlantic, and Dale (Amelia) Logue of San Mateo, CA; and other relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 P.M. until the time of service on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Burial will be in the Reno Methodist Cemetery southwest of Cumberland.
