Belva Smiley

Belva Smiley, age 81, a resident of Atlantic passed away on Tuesday evening January 20, 2004 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.The daughter of Alex and Ida May (Schmitt) McGaffin was born on August 25, 1922 northeast of Wiota in Benton Township. Belva graduated from Lewis High School and attended AIB in Des Moines. She married Robert Smiley on June 20, 1957 at the Lewis Methodist Church in Lewis. Belva worked at Sidles as the bookkeeper. She was a member of the first United Methodist Church and belonged to the Eastern Star and BPW.Belva is survived by three sisters of Atlantic, Bernice Burnside and Betty Sanny of Lewis and Judy Ireland and husband Gary of Iowa Falls; nephews at Richard Marshall and live Mari Jo of Griswold, Rick Sanny of Atlantic, Jim Burnside of Cedar Rapids, Alex Burnside and wife Kathy of Omaha and Gary Burnside; a niece in law, Pat Ews and a special friend Dean Stilley oh Chamberlain, South Dakota. Belva was preceded in death by her parent Alex and Ida McGraffin and about her husband Bob, nephew Lee Marshall, and nieces Carmen Burnside, Joyce Cavin, brothers-in-law Russell Marshall, Henry Sanny and Eldon Burnside.Funeral Information
