Elmer R. Shriver
Elmer Rudolph Shriver of Atlantic, Iowa passed away Thursday morning, April 12, 2007 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital at the age of 81.Elmer was born on February 26,1926 in Harrison County Iowa, to Earl and Florence Camendish Shriver. He served during World War II entering the war on April 18, 1945. He was discharged January 1, 1947. On November 16, 1952, Elmer was united in marriage to Alice Jean Delph, the daughter of Ray and Ethel (Cunningham) Delph. Elmer farmed with his dad and then for himself. He and Alice farmed in the Avoca and Atlantic areas. Elmer was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Atlantic and the American Legion Post 240 in Shelby, Iowa. His hobbies, in addition to his farming, included gardening, tinkering with antique tractors and toy tractors and spending time with his family.Survivors are his wife, Alice; three children, Vanessa Dreager and her husband Paul, of Atlantic, Craig Shriver of Atlantic and Patty Haupert and her husband, Terry of Menasha, WI; five grandchildren, Mike Dreager and his wife, Becky, Sarah Swain and her husband, Doug, Ryan Dreager and his wife, Brooke, Tracy Shriver and Victoria Shriver; four great grandchildren, Clinton Hansen, Brett Dreager, Trista and Kailey Swain; brothers, Harold Shriver and Ralph Shriver and his wife Irene; sisters, Lucille Miller and her husband, Varrow, and Shirley Hoover; brother-in-law, Virgil Hennager; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Foster, Lois Delph and Phyliss Delph. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
