Shirley Bruhl

Shirley J. Bruhl, 81, of Atlantic, Iowa, and formerly of Waverly, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Exira Care Center.

Shirley Jean was born on May 4, 1943, in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of Lawrence Henderson and Lois Emma (Harshbarger) Talley. She attended school in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School. Following graduation she received her Business Degree at Peru State College. On April 11, 1964, she was united in marriage to Robert M. Bruhl. 

During her career she worked for the League of Nebraska Municipalities, as a secretary in the Superintendent’s office at Waverly Public Schools, and as the City Clerk for the City of Waverly. Just as her husband, Robert did she also spent time in the Nebraska Legislature before her retirement. 

Shirley’s craft and artistic side led to many beautiful crocheted and ceramic painted pieces. The detail she put into her work was incredible, her ceramic Santa Claus being a family favorite. 

Shirley is survived by her sons, Marty (Julie) Bruhl and Randy (Peggy) Bruhl; five grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, John (Joni) Bruhl; sister-in-law, Beatrice Bruhl; and many extended family.

She is preceded in death her parents, Lawrence and Lois Talley; husband, Robert M. Bruhl; sister, Beverly Tucker; and brother-in-law, Terry Bruhl.

Inurnment will take place in the Rosehill Cemetery in Waverly, Nebraska.
