Leila Shepperd of rural Atlantic, Iowa, passed away at the age of 73 years on May 15, 2012, at the Cass Country Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Leila was born on September 4, 1938 to Frank David and Esthermay (Schwenke) Karas near Massena, Iowa. She attended school in Massena graduating from the Massena High School. On January 15, 1961, Leila was united in marriage to Duane Shepperd at her parents' home near Massena. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers and sewing. Leila loved most the time she could spend with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Duane; children, Douglas Shepperd, and wife, Jill, of Atlantic and Nancy Duffy, and husband, Duane, of Council Bluffs, IA; a sister, Leola Butler of Treynor, IA; five grandchildren, Isaak Kolln of Atlantic, IA, Rebecca and Katie Duffy of Council Bluffs, IA, Dillon and D J Shepperd of Atlantic, IA.
Leila was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Beverly Karas, Lenor Nelson and Leree Gaukel.
There will be open visitation for Leila at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic on Thursday, May 17, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with a family visitation to follow from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 18, at 1:30 pm at the funeral home with a committal in the Atlantic Cemetery to follow.
