Doug Seemann

Doug R. Seemann, 73, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Sunday, June 21, 2020, at his home.

Douglas Ray Seemann was born on January 11, 1947, in Britton, South Dakota, the son of Clayton and Muriel Arylene (McDermott) Seemann. His dad was a salesman for Ford Tractor so the family moved during his childhood, the majority of it living in Creston and Storm Lake, Iowa. Doug graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1965. Following graduation, he moved to Omaha and enrolled in classes at Commercial Extension College earning his Associates Degree in Sales and Accounting. He worked as a manager at a carpet store until returning to Minnesota to care for his mother. While living in Omaha he met someone he thought was just a best-friend for life, Juli Kathryn Morrison. The couple reconnected in 1997, and they lived in Hopkins and Chatfield, Minnesota where he continued to care for his mom and work at a local paint store. His love for Juli, which he said he always had even when they were just friends in Omaha, was made official when the couple was married on his 50th birthday on January 11, 1997. A short time later they moved to Atlantic, Iowa, where he began working at Akins Building Center until his retirement.

In 2015, Doug and Juli started wintering in Texas, and enjoyed every minute of it. While Juli was involved in her many activities he preferred to get on the golf cart and cruise the park visiting with friends along the way with Maenerd Blu, his support dog and constant companion.

A sports fanatic through and through from playing slow pitch softball, coaching boys’ hockey and women's softball, to collecting anything he could get his hands on of Minnesota Twins and Vikings. His collectibles also included countless Coca-Cola memorabilia. A year ago, he was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of living on a golf course when he and Juli moved into their condo on Nishna Hills Golf Course. Doug could spend hours on the patio watching the golfers and enjoyed when they would stop to chat.

A few of his favorite memories with his family was a salmon fishing trip to Canada with his dad, dancing with his mom at his wedding reception, a recent trip to South Dakota and Minnesota to visit his cousin, Rita and other relatives, and spending time with his grandchildren, Roman and Greyson; whom he thought the world of.

Doug was funny and treated everyone with respect. His faith and his trust in the Lord never wavered, and he always went back to the basics by reciting his favorite verse John 3:16 and referencing the words of his favorite hymn, How Great Thou Art. Doug and Julie were members at the Evangelical Free Church in Atlantic.

Doug is survived by his wife, Juli and her children, Mark, Kimberly, Kristine, Kaela and Michal; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Maureen Olsen; niece, Linnea Olsen; nephew, Mark Olsen; and constant companion and support dog, Maenerd Blu.

He is preceded in death by his father, Clayton in 1992; mother, Arylene in 2002; and grandson, Ethan Stimpson.

Celebration of Life Memorial services will be held at a later date.
