Harold Scott
A longtime Atlantic resident Harold Scott passed away peacefully on July 22, 2012 in his Ft. Myers, Florida apartment. He was born in Pawnee, Illinois on December 19, 1915.In 1939 he married the former Jacqueline Peacock who was born and raised in Atlantic. Harold and Jackie lived in Atlantic for many years where they raised their 2 children and played golf at the Atlantic Country Club. He was employed by the United States Post Office in Atlantic until his retirement in 1973.
In 1974 Harold and Jackie retired to Ft. Myers, Florida where they continued to play golf and socialize at the Whiskey Creek Country Club. Together they racked up an amazing 7 holes in one and truly enjoyed their retirement years together. They kept in touch with their friends in Iowa and enjoyed many visits from them over the years. Harold remained healthy and robust all his life and celebrated his 96th birthday last year at Whiskey Creek Country Club surrounded by his friends and family.
He was preceded in death in 2008 by his wife of 69 years and cared for her for many years when she became ill with Alzheimer’s disease.
Surviving relatives include his son John and wife Christine, Ft. Myers, Florida and his daughter Susan Drenning and husband Rodney, Cape Coral, Florida. Harold is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and numerous nieces and nephews in Pawnee, Illinois. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Harold was a veteran of WWII serving with the 34th Infantry Division and was awarded 3 Bronze Stars.
Memorial Services will be held graveside at the Atlantic Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Friday September 7, 2012 where his ashes will be interred next to Jackie.
